Pedagogy – bachelor’s degree studies
Pedagogy belongs to the social sciences and is characterized by a high level of interdisciplinarity, as it has its roots in philosophy, psychology, sociology, and many other humanities. Therefore, a pedagogy student must be open to different types and forms of knowledge and willing to expand their horizons. It is a very demanding discipline especially for those who understand the need for lifelong learning.
Pedagogy covers all forms of education of children and youth, and also provides information on social assistance for those affected by fate and care for the elderly. Pedagogical studies shape a wide range of skills and social competencies expected by future employers, necessary for efficient functioning in a free-market economy.
A first-degree graduate has basic general pedagogical, historical-philosophical, sociological, and psychological knowledge necessary to understand the socio-cultural context of education, upbringing, and care work, as well as to shape their own professional development. The graduate obtains basic professional qualifications depending on the chosen specialty, with the possibility of focusing on a specific pedagogical specialty.
Each of the specialties in the field of Pedagogy is practical, which means that at least half of the classes are conducted in the form of exercises and workshops. The classes are conducted by practitioners employed in kindergartens, schools, and institutions dealing with care, upbringing, and family assistance. This allows students from the beginning of their studies to acquire skills necessary for future professional work, to combine theory with practice, and to verify the acquired knowledge in conditions natural for a given profession.
Professional practice and cooperation with local institutions working with children, youth, and adults, the elderly, and those in need of assistance and care, play an extremely important role in the study program.
